The Terpstra Foundation is no longer acception grant applicatons

The Foundation stopped accepting grant applications in 2022 and will award its final grants in 2023 to pre-selected organizations and will close its doors at the end of 2023 after awarding more than $3 million over 17 years to nonprofit organizations.

We truly appreciate the opportunity to work with so many great organizations doing exceptional work with young people in York and across the state of Nebraska.

Welcome to the Terpstra Foundation.

The Terpstra Foundation was founded in 2007 by Mike Terpstra. Mike, along with seven co-workers, split what was then the largest Powerball jackpot, with each pocketing an immediate $15.5 million after taxes. Mike knew he wanted to give something back to his community so her formed the Terpstra Foundation shortly after winning.

The Foundation focuses on project and programs that help children, teens and families that are under-resourced.

The Foundation is also particularly interested in helping out in York, NE, where Mike grew up. The Terpstra Foundation has helped the food bank and the library, and has focused on the high school, buying band uniforms, computers for the journalism program and helping fund a building for the school’s weight room, wrestling area and indoor tennis courts. Mike is particularly proud of the greenhouse the Foundation funded.

York High School Greenhouse

I started the foundation so I could give money to organizations that do good works for kids. We worked with York High School when the school told me the newest piece of equipment in the journalism lab was a 1976 35mm camera. Well, 1976 was the year I graduated. We approved the proposal and donated 12 new computers and a camera to the school.
